Director of Nursing Services (DNS or DON)
Reports to: Administrator
GENERAL PURPOSE
Director of nursing services will manage the nursing department while coordinating the efforts of the Interdisciplinary team to enhance the lives of the residents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and DUTIES
A) Supervision
Operate the facility in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the governing body in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Abbility to prepare written policies regarding duties and activities of facility staff.
Enforce the facility policies and procedures and maintain all company systems.
Assume responsibility with department supervisors of ensuring adequate staffing.
Arbitrate complains and disputes concerning resident, families or personnel.
Ability to interpret all federal, state and local regulations for the facility staff.
Delegate authority
B) Nursing Care and Planning
1. Assist with new admissions, transfers and discharges.
2. Ensure that licensed personnel have documentation of the admission status of the resident within eight hours, including, but not limited to, skin condition, nutritional status, hydration status, mental status, vital signs, mobility, and ability to perform ADLs.
3. Ensure all resident have a preliminary resident care plan within 24 hours of admission to ensure that the immediate needs of the resident are met. Shall ensure that staff, providing care for the resident, shall have access to, be familiar with and follow through with this plan.
4. Ensure that a restorative plan based on a review of the residents needs and delivered in accordance with the resident care plan.
5. Shall ensure that restorative services are provided to the resident, in accordance with the preliminary resident care plan not later than 24 hours after admission.
D) Staff Development
Attend and participate in training, in-services and staff meetings
Attend and participate in continuing education programs and obtain credit. towards required CEU’s
Ability to participate in the scheduling, planning and procuring of materials and
Information for staff meetings and in-services education programs
E) Other Duties
1. Perform related duties as requested.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must have current Registered Nurse state licensure.
• Graduate from an accredited professional nursing program
• Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish this job.
• Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance
• Must be capable of performing the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (with or without the aid of Mechanical Devices)
Visual and auditory acuity within normal limits, fine hand coordination, frequent standing and walking. Bending and kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling wheelchairs and other equipment. Lifting residents (70-290lbs) with assistance as indicated, move residents in bed (40 lbs), up in bed (60lbs), chair to stand (60lbs). Ability to distinguish smells and temperatures. Ability to read, write, and communicate with residents, personnel, and visitors. Ability to remain calm under stress.
